Shortly after my (now) husband and I began dating, I started taking photos of his and hers items to remind myself of our dates, special occasions, and everyday activities. After seven years, I have quite the collection of these pairings, and many of these photos capture us and our adventures together better than any "standard" photo ever could.
Perhaps it's the personality of our toothbrushes, drinks, books, glasses and a myriad of what-have-you's which gives these images so much character. Perhaps it's the focus on the details - hands entertwined, shoes touching awaiting a hike, books comingling - which draws awareness to who we are and how well we contrast and compliment one another. Perhaps..
But I think that what I love the most about these photos, is that they are little fragments, pure and unfettered, which may have otherwise been lost and forgotten among the bigger journey of our days together. Here, in these photos, are our choices and personalities.
I plan on continuing this project for the rest of our lives. During 2013, I want to make sure to capture these moments daily - expanding to include pairings of the wee ones items too - if only to have one moment of the many days in a year which, let's face it, can seem to merge into one image in our minds as time goes by.
Do you think you would like to join in on such a project? How about starting small - capturing one pairing in a day for a month? I promise that once you start a project such as this, it really is hard to not notice and photograph the "right Now" moments.
In the Details: You can join in on Instagram with hashtag #bhdphotopair (Tiffany's username is @twilightscafe ) or update us here with your photo links. New photos of our project will be posted here and over at www.thetiffanyblog.com . Pairings can be of any items representing you and your sweetie, your wee ones, drinks when you're out and about, details of your suitcase (compare and contrast), etc. Be creative! The point is to notice the everyday details we might otherwise ignore. XO
